Fantasy Premier League GW25 tips: How to maximise the double gameweek

FPL Gameweek 25 presents a window of opportunity, with a doubleheader to capitalise upon.

Liverpool, Manchester City, Brentford and Luton are all involved, so FPL players have a number of key decisions to make ahead of the Saturday deadline.

We’ve opened up the Twenty3 Toolbox to highlight some players who could potentially be in the points.

Secure City assets

Manchester City host Chelsea and Brentford this week in a mouth-watering double.

The Blues rank 11th for non-penalty goals conceded (36), while Thomas Frank’s side have let in 38. City will hope to take advantage of both teams’ defensive vulnerabilities.

Erling Haaland was back on the scoresheet after returning from an ankle injury, with a brace against Everton last time out.

He remains this season’s top scorer on 16 goals, while also leading the league for expected goals per 90 minutes (0.72). He is certainly a triple captain option to consider.

In midfield, Kevin De Bruyne has made an outstanding comeback, scoring once and providing four assists in three starts. However, the Belgian comes with a hefty price tag.

Instead, Phil Foden could be the man to make a move for.

The 23-year-old is in fine form, having scored four and assisted three in his last seven appearances.

Haaland (131) is the only player in a City shirt who has racked up more FPL points than Foden (127), with the England ace proving more influential than ever for Pep Guardiola’s side.

City players, as always, are crucial assets for any FPL players hoping to accumulate high points totals.

Liverpool difficult to predict

While Guardiola is notorious for his regulation rotation, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are an even tougher proposition to predict for the next few gameweeks.

The Reds have a Carabao Cup final to consider, as well as several injury concerns and a blank in Gameweek 26.

Chief among the headaches is defender Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The premium FPL full-back was withdrawn at half-time during Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Burnley and could be set for more time on the sidelines.

Finding a replacement for Alexander-Arnold is a difficult task. For security, Virgil Van Dijk could be an option — Liverpool rank third for expected goals conceded (25.69).

The Merseysiders are also blessed with some enviable attacking options.

Darwin Núñez, despite his hit-and-miss finishing, is always likely to be a threat — he leads the division for non-penalty shots on target (33).

Diogo Jota, meanwhile, is in fine form, getting at least five FPL points in five of his last six matches. That included a 19-point haul against Bournemouth.

Mohamed Salah has been pictured in training after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations with an injury — but his return date is still unknown.

A blank in the following week, coupled with selection uncertainty, makes for a tricky route to and from those assets if they are not already owned — but a double is certainly worth holding in attack.

Consider Luton and Brentford

Owners of Luton and Brentford players will also benefit from a double gameweek — but both teams have tough fixtures.

The Hatters play a Manchester United side on the rise, followed by a trip to Anfield. Brentford also face Liverpool, before travelling to champions Manchester City.

Alfie Doughty is a solid enabler pick, given his modest price and attacking influence for Luton. The wing-back has seven assists to his name this season.

Brentford talisman Ivan Toney has scored three goals since returning from his long-term ban.

As a guaranteed starter, designated penalty taker and with no blank to come in Gameweek 26, the former Newcastle man could be a smart longer-term pick.

Other budget options include Mark Flekken and Sergio Reguilón — the former could be in for a busy two fixtures between the sticks, but that means an opportunity to rack up save points.

Reguilón, in his first three matches for the West Londoners, has shown plenty of attacking urgency, completing three of his five attempted crosses.

However, the Bees have conceded eight goals in their last four league matches, so defenders are more likely to earn their points from goal involvements rather than clean sheets.

Grossly underrated

For those stocked up on their double gameweek picks, Brighton’s Pascal Gross could be a shrewd selection.

The German’s 7.05 expected assists is bettered only by Keiran Trippier and Bukayo Saka in the Premier League this season.

The Seagulls face Sheffield United In Gameweek 25 — the Blades have the fewest clean sheets (one) and most non-penalty goals conceded (54) in the division.

Subsequent matches against Everton, Fulham and Nottingham Forest could present Gross with a good opportunity for differential points, with the German having been selected by just 5.7% of FPL players.
