Release Xavi: The one with new visualisations

TLDR: With the integration of IMPECT and their packing data, there are a bunch of new data points for us to play with. In this release we have put the viz team to work and added in two new additions to our visualisation library – Carry maps and Detailed Packing Zone visualisations. We’re looking forward to seeing how these get put to use.

Elsewhere, we’ve added a new tab to the Event Lab that will allow you to view data at a competition by competition level — in other words, being able to compare stats for the Premier League vs La Liga vs Bundesliga etc. We’ll also be adding a couple more features to this in the next release, as well as expanding this functionality to the Football Lab and Smart Graphics, so keep an eye out for those.

Visualisations

  • NEW Carry maps – Added an entirely new visualisation to the viz library for IMPECT users. Carry maps allow you to see successful and unsuccessful carries, as well as carries that bypassed opponents at both a team and player level.
  •  NEW Detailed Packing Zone visualisations – Added a toggle option to Packing Zone viz, that allows you to switch between regular or detailed packing zones. Detailed packing zones add an additional 13 zones for a more granular breakdown of where events take place.

Event Lab

NEWCompetition Level Data – Added an additional tab to the Event Lab, allowing users to view and compare data across different competitions. This also includes the majority of the existing Event Lab functionality as you’d expect, including building your own stats, customisable view, conditional filtering and more.

Other

  • Drastically improved load times in Analyse.
  • Fixed a rare occurrence where there would be a discrepancy between stats in the UI vs CSV exports.
  • Fixed an issue in the Match Centre where fonts would occasionally not load on graphics for the first load and would require a refresh.
  • Various other smaller bug fixes and improvements.

If you would like to know more about any of the features or fixes listed above, or would like to hear about what we have planned in the future, then please feel free to get in touch.
